The goal of the five-year general surgery residency program at the Hospital of Saint Raphael is to develop high quality clinical academic surgeons.  Our clinically oriented program offers close interaction with faculty surgeons and an inclusive curriculum with experience in both general and subspecialty of general surgery.   The breadth of training ensures that surgeons have the skills and competencies to manage total care of a surgical patient.   Many of our graduating chief residents have completed fellowship training at well-known institutions that include Surgical Oncology at Johns Hopkins, Trauma/ Critical Care Fellowship, University of Maryland, Vascular Surgery at Robert Woods Johnson, and Thoracic Surgery at Beth Israel On average, residents will have performed more than 800 cases during their training.  A comprehensive clinical framework coupled with research opportunities ensures well-rounded, accomplished surgeons.  The general surgery program offers preliminary and categorical positions.
