The library carries approximately 3,000 books in the medical, nursing and allied health fields. Books circulate for one month and are renewable; those with yellow REFERENCE stickers on the spine do not circulate. Books are arranged by subject on the shelf. For specific books that the library owns, check the card catalog.
The library carries over 400 journal titles in the medical, nursing and allied health and health management fields. No volumes are kept prior to 1960. Journal issues or bound volumes circulate for one week with the exclusion of the current issue. A list of full-text online journals is available upon request and on the library's home page.
Quick reference (fast inquiries) can be answered over the phone. Detailed reference requests should be discussed in person with one of the librarians.
Six IBM-compatible computers are available for use by hospital-affiliated library patrons. The PCs have several computerized programs such MD Consult, PubMed, Cochrane, CINAHL and the Microsoft office programs. Up-To-Date is available on one library PC. Library materials may be signed out at any time. IT IS STRICTLY THE HONOR SYSTEM. Conversely, library materials may be returned at any time within the circulation period to the book drop at the desk. Specific rules are displayed at the circulation desk. Patrons are responsible for library materials signed out in their name and are liable for a replacement charge if those materials are not returned after a reasonable amount of time.
A photocopier is operational at all times. Patrons are asked to do multiple copies at Central Copy.
The library has nationwide access to other libraries for the purpose of shared resources. Materials not carried by this library may be obtained from other libraries through interlibrary loan. Books can be borrowed; journal articles (up to 50 pages) may be photocopied at point of origin. A fee will be imposed if the lending library charges us. Forms for this service are located on top of the card catalog.
